Nashville Fashion Group, Inc.

Nashville's Premiere Fashion Network

Basically, we're a couple of models looking to create a photo book showcasing the eclectic abilities of some of the fashion talent in and around Nashville.

The project has two purposes...maybe even more. Ultimately, we want to gather a collection of local photographers, stylists, artists, boutique owners, and models (fashionistas and fashionistos) to create a photo book showing the versatile range of fashion and style in Nashville. I hope for this project to expand, which is very important to note. One of the best things about the fashion community in and around Nashville is that there is so much life pulsing in the area with creative and talented people who just want to express themselves. That inspires me. There are a lot of incredible people around here and with our powers combined, I think we could create something worth getting excited about.

Also, I'd like for this project to be 100% beneficial to everyone involved, down to the smallest detail. That's important, because every single person who has a hand in the effort makes a huge impact on the outcome. With any luck, we'll be able to find enough people who will be willing to do this project for free.* Of course, everyone will be receiving some TF* work and credit in a photo compilation book (which I hear looks good on a resume), plus you'll be making contacts like crazy. When the book is finally finished, we'll be selling copies of it with all proceeds going to our favorite Nashville charity. If you need any more persuading, look at it as free promotion for either your company, your services, or you as a brand.

The idea is to create a coffee table type deal showing the work of a collection of photographers based in and near Nashville. The idea is to leave all creative control of individual shoots to the photographer, so as to be sure his/her photos remain an honest depiction of his/her work. This is important, because for obvious reasons, this book has the ability to go a long way in terms of promotion of a photographer's services (and can gladly be used as such) and because the whole idea is to highlight the range of the individual's aesthetic eye, which is the most important thing.
It's sort of a pet project of mine that I've been thinking about for years, and it's grown to be something that might actually happen, finally. Having lived in some other places, I have to say Nashville is one with one of the most singular personalities. People overlook it and I don't think it's fair. It's awful to see that people from other places think Nashville is full of barefoot hillbillies when there are so many thoughtful and creative people actually here, actually doing something relevant. I want nothing more than to prove those people wrong with this. So with that said, nobody's getting paid. I say that now to deter you from wasting your time in reading further if that's not something you can dig.

The focus of the project will be fashion and editorial types of work, and although we know that isn't necessarily a major focus for every photographer, it is a great opportunity to work with some talented models with varying degrees of experience and different types of looks. Plus, we're urging the models (myself included) to go test for the photographers if they can, when they need it and to be open to other TF projects our photogs might have. My vision is to make the entire process as much a collaborative effort as possible, so that everyone benefits. In order to do this, we're hoping to work strictly on borrowed time, having everything TF* or donated that's possible. This is partly because I get soapbox-y about artistic integrity when it comes to this project, but also because no one has any money, anyway. Because this creates a certain element of difficulty in time and resources, we're trying to make everything open and mutually beneficial for everyone from the designer to the photographer to the model to the muah, etc.

This idea was born from a conversation I had with a friend about how rare it is to really get the opportunity to do what you love to do for a living. For me, modeling is all I've ever really known in terms of a 'job' and I can honestly say that I love what I do. I know I'm not the only one who feels that way, and I've always found that if anyone could agree, it would be the artists. So, I decided to give it a shot. I rounded up some models with the potential for some versatile looks and eclectic portfolios, then I searched high and low for photographers with the skill and the interest in hopes of getting people together who could pull it off. The rest is soon to be history, I suppose.

And who doesn't love a good photobook?

The Photographers: The photographers whose work is featured in the book will retain ALL CREATIVE RIGHTS to the concept of their shoot and remain owners of their respective images. They will be able to use this book for promotion of their services as a photographer without restriction. The images featured in this book will not be used in any way that is not first agreed to, in writing with the photographer. No changes of any kind will be made to any photo unless it is made by the photographer or with the photographer's express consent.

All of the proceeds from the sales of the book when it is eventually finished will eventually go to a charity yet to be determined (because like I said, I want everyone who wants to have input in that decision to have it).

The Models: I have a really specific vision for this book and there are specific types of people I'd like to represent the vision. I need models with a versatile range for this project, both male and female. We will need models with a diverse range, because you will be shooting with more than one photographer with completely different concepts (maybe even the same photographer and several concepts). Be willing to try out a lot of different things and you should be just fine. We also ask that you be open to test shooting with the photographers independent of this project. Because this project is my baby, and it's the only thing I really have any control over in terms of the way it looks, I will be choosing the models. Model submissions (Photographers, Designers, Stylists, etc are welcome to refer models) with polaroids and measurements should be sent to Coco at iownthiscity@gmail.com for consideration.

The Designers/Stylists/Wardrobe: We will be shooting in a mixture of items pulled from the model's own wardrobes, vintage items, found items and items from local designers, shops, and boutiques. Some days will be normal, some days will be totally crazy, so be prepared for that! You will work in conjunction with the photographers to style shoots. This may include, but is not limited to contacting designers/boutiques for lending, fittings (ahead of time) and models' dressing. As the project grows, we plan to have stylists present to assist at all necessary shoots.

Makeup/Hair Artists- We will be looking for 1-2 'resident' hair stylists and 1-2 'resident' MUAs (unless they turn out to be good at both). These people will style the shoots for those photographers without makeup artists and stylists in-house. We also ask that they be willing to assist any in-house stylists and artists any photographer may have for their shoot, if necessary, when possible. There will be a lead stylist appointed for hair (Jessica Hallett, Bella Di Vita Salon, Murfreesboro), and for makeup.
